Because rust doesn’t wait. Every time you drive—especially in Minnesota—your vehicle’s undercarriage is bombarded by road salt, moisture, and debris, all of which accelerate corrosion. Without protection, rust will eat away at your brake lines, suspension, frame, and fuel system, leading to expensive repairs, part failures, and reduced resale value. Undercoating acts as a durable barrier that shields your investment from the elements. It’s not just about keeping your vehicle looking good—it’s about keeping it safe, reliable, and on the road longer.
-
Rustproofing targets the inside of your vehicle—specifically the hidden cavities where rust begins. These include areas like rocker panels, door interiors, fenders, tailgates, and frame channels where salty water and moisture get trapped but aren’t easily seen or reached. Unlike undercoating, which protects the underside of your vehicle from road spray and physical wear, rustproofing is about stopping corrosion from the inside out.
Even new vehicles aren’t immune—factory treatments don’t reach deep into these enclosed spaces. That’s why rustproofing is an essential part of a complete protection plan: it seals up the spots you can’t see, preventing internal rust that undercoating alone can’t stop.

At Carson Undercoating, we’re committed to doing it right—not just fast. We take pride in honest, detail-driven service, using only premium products and proven prep methods to ensure long-term rust protection. Unlike competitors who skip rust removal or rely on harmful rubberized/asphalt sprays, we focus on thorough cleaning, quality materials, and transparent practices. Our mission is simple: give your vehicle the care it deserves and give you peace of mind—because winter is tough enough already.

For gravel roads, Woolwax is hands-down the best option. Its thick, clingy formula is designed to resist being blasted away by constant gravel spray and dust. Unlike thinner coatings or hard-shell products that can crack or chip from impact, Woolwax stays flexible and self-healing, making it ideal for rough, rural driving conditions.
If you’re dealing with frequent gravel road exposure, Woolwax is the protection your undercarriage needs.
WELCOME TO EXCEPTIONAL.
-
Unfortunately, not really. While most new vehicles have some level of surface treatment—like e-coating, powder coating, or GM’s frame wax (which is notoriously ineffective)—these coatings aren’t designed to withstand the harsh road salt used in places like Minnesota. Salt and moisture will still creep into frame channels, rocker panels, doors, and other hidden areas where rust begins. For long-term protection and peace of mind, it’s best to undercoat your vehicle early—before rust has a chance to start.
-
Preparation is everything. We begin by thoroughly washing and degreasing the undercarriage to remove dirt, grime, and buildup. Vehicles from southern regions or gravel roads may need extra cleaning, especially in frame channels and cavities where dirt likes to hide.
We also remove skid plates, shields, and underbody panels for full access, and we mask off sensitive areas like the exhaust, wheels, and paint as needed.
In winter, we apply a pH neutralizer (SaltsGone) to eliminate road salt before coating. If your vehicle has existing rust, we can evaluate, remove, and treat it using mechanical descaling or laser cleaning to ensure the coating bonds properly.

Laser Cleaning
Rust
At Carson Undercoating, we’re proud to introduce the revolutionary power of laser cleaning. This advanced, eco-friendly technology uses focused laser pulses to remove rust, corrosion, paint and contaminants from metal surfaces without damaging underlying substrate. Unlike traditional methods done by hand, laser cleaning is non-abrasive, chemical-free and capable of reaching areas that other techniques simply cannot.
Whether it’s your vehicle, equipment or small parts, we’re able to bring a level of precision and quality that sets us apart. Come and explore the future of surface preparation with us, checkout our video to see this groundbreaking technology in action.

Generally, no—we avoid sandblasting vehicle undercarriages due to the risk of damage it poses. Blast media can harm sensitive components like body panels, brake lines, wiring, seals, and suspension joints, and it often sneaks past factory seals into areas it doesn’t belong. That’s why we prefer a safer, more controlled approach using mechanical descaling and laser cleaning, which effectively remove rust without compromising the integrity of your vehicle.
-
The quality of our work stays the same year-round, but colder months do require a few extra steps that can extend service time. In winter, we wash every vehicle with a pH-neutralizing cleaner (like SaltsGone) to remove road salt and ensure it's completely dry before we start. Products like Cosmoline may also need longer to cure in lower temperatures before your vehicle is road-ready. So while there’s no “wrong” season, spring through fall typically allows for quicker turnaround.
-
On average, we’ll need your vehicle for 1 to 5 days. The exact timing depends on several factors: your vehicle’s size, age, condition, how clean it is, and the products, package or services you’ve selected. In the winter months, weather and road conditions can add extra time, especially for cleaning and drying steps.
WE’RE WORTH THE DRIVE, BECAUSE YOU DESERVE THE BEST.

No—undercoating your vehicle does not void your factory warranty. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act protects your rights as a vehicle owner, meaning a dealer cannot deny warranty coverage simply because you’ve chosen to add aftermarket rust protection. Unless the undercoating directly causes a specific issue, your warranty remains fully intact.
-
Undercoating is a protective service that naturally experiences wear and tear as a vehicle is driven and exposed to the elements. No matter how premium the product, ongoing maintenance is key to long-term effectiveness. As a small business, it's difficult to warranty something so dependent on usage and conditions outside our control. Instead, we focus on delivering exceptional prep, high-grade products, and honest education—so you know what to expect and how to keep your protection lasting.
